In recent years, millions of dollars have been spent on developing new and better running shoes. The advances in material design have led to light weight, highly durable shoes that greatly reduce the jarring forces we all experience when engaged in sports. These new materials have let many athletes run farther, jump higher, and play longer.

Thanks to a unique partnership between FOOTINGS UNLIMITED and one of the world's largest manufacturers of athletic shoes, these same high tech materials are now available for use in your arena.

AIRFOOT is made by grinding defective athletic shoes into a a granular mix which is then blended with select recycled rubbers. The product can then be easily dragged into your existing footing or added to new footing.

There are several other key benefits to using AIRFOOT in your arena:

AIRFOOT works to improve your footing at several levels. Concussion reduction is accomplished in two ways. The rubber itself provides a degree of cushion, but the real value comes from Bridging which is the result of AIRFOOT particles creating millions of tiny air pockets in your footing. As your horse travels over these bridges, the air is forced out, and they gently collapse. As you ride you will not actually feel the bridges collapse. You will, however, feel what is commonly referred to as "cush."

AIRFOOT provides another very important characteristic - after it has been compressed by the horses hoof it rebounds in a upward motion. This creates a unique "springiness." The combination of these two factors (cush and Springiness) create a truly exceptional riding surface.

  1. The product is constantly expanding and contracting due to temperature and pressure fluctuations. This process results in the continual formation of new air pockets which, in turn, prevent your footing from packing down.
  2. The canvas and microcellular foam portion of the product will hold moisture and help with dust control.
  3. Drainage will also be improved since the water will either be absorbed or pass freely through the air pockets.
  4. Because you us the product at a rate of only one pound per square foot, you will not be altering the overall characteristics of your arena to the point you will have trouble adjusting to the footings at competitions.

When using any arena additive, you need to be mindful of its effect on the overall perfore of your footing. You want to improve it without unduly changing the "feel and texture." Just imagine if you were to walk on rubber flooring every day and then had to go out and spend a day on a concrete floor!

Footings can have much the same effect on a horse. You want the horse focused on performing. You do not want it distracted by trying to adjust to the footing.
